Community Programs

Orange County offers a number of ways for citizens to become an active part in making their County more environmentally friendly. Together we can each do our part to make Orange County a great place to live for years to come.

Adopt a Lake Program

Since 1994, the Orange County Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has provided citizens concerned about the health of local lakes with the opportunity to take an active role in water quality monitoring thorough the Adopt-A-Lake program (AAL).

Clean Lakes Initiative Program (CLIP)

CLIP assists homeowners living in the watersheds of lakes identified as impaired by the State to replant shorelines, install swales, and remove invasive exotic plants through financial assistance and education. For more information email cleanlakes@ocfl.net.

Green PLACE Program

The Green PLACE is an initiative started in 2002 by Mayor Crotty designed to preserve Orange County's natural resources and wildlife. The mission of Green PLACE is :

"To preserve and manage environmentally sensitive lands, protect water resource lands and to provide a quality passive recreational outdoors experience for existing and future generations."

Home Heating Oil Tank Removal (HHOT)

Orange County's ReNEW Home Heating Oil Tank Removal/Abandonment (HHOT) Program helps County homeowners remove old heating oil tanks on their property. Removal of the tanks will benefit the homeowner and Orange County's natural resources by stopping a potential source of groundwater contamination. Orange County's Home Heating Oil Tank Removal and Abandonment (HHOT) Program ended on September 30, 2007. Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW)

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) includes paints, turpentine, paint strippers, fluorescent lamps, mercury thermometers, cleaners, pesticides, and herbicides. These products contain potentially hazardous ingredients. Improperly disposal of these items and other types of hazardous waste pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health. Do not pour them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or put them out with the trash. Special care is required for disposing of HHW and Electronic Waste.
