The map is divided into regions called basins. They represent areas that have different drainage patterns. Please click on a basin name or any place on the map to find out more information regarding monitoring efforts in those areas.

Apopka Basin

This basin contains the largest lake in the county - Lake Apopka, which covers over 31,000 acres. The lake has Gourd Neck springs at the south end and flows north through the Harris chain of lakes eventually into the Oklawaha River. Orange County EPD samples 20 lake sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Big Econ Basin

This basin contains the Econlockhatchee River. This river flows from Osceola county north and meets the St. John's River in Seminole county. This river has a large protection area surrounding its location such as the Hal Scott Preserve and is considered an Outstanding Florida Water. Orange County EPD samples 7 lake sites and 8 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Big Wekiva Basin

This basin contains the Wekiva River. This river is protected and listed as an Outstanding Florida Water (OFW). It begins at Wekiwa Springs and flows north into the St. John's River. Along the way, it receives water from Rock Springs Run, the Little Wekiva River and Blackwater Creek. Orange County EPD samples 20 lake sites and 4 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Boggy Creek Basin

This basin contains the Boggy Creek River. This creek begins just north of Orlando International Airport and flows south into Lake Tohopekaliga. This basin also contains Lake Conway, one of the clearest lakes in the county. Orange County EPD samples 25 lake sites and 4 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Cypress Creek Basin

This basin contains the Butler Chain of Lakes which are listed as Outstanding Florida Waters. This important resource contains a total of eleven lakes connected by canals. Orange County EPD samples 16 lake sites and 2 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Hart Basin

This basin contains Lake Hart and Mary Jane, which are two of the county's larger tannic lakes. They are situated off of Orange County's Moss Park near the Osceola County line. Orange County EPD samples 4 lake sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Howell Branch Basin

This basin contains the Winter Park Chain of Lakes which run through the city of Winter Park as well as the city of Maitland. it also contains Howell Creek, which starts in Winter Park and flows north up to Lake Jessup. Orange County EPD samples 26 lake sites and 2 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Little Wekiva Basin

This basin contains the Little Wekiva River. This river flows from the Lake Orlando area north to join the Wekiva in Seminole County. Orange County EPD samples 12 lake sites and 3 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Little Econ Basin

This basin contains the Little Econlockhatchee River. It flows from south of Curry Ford Road north to join the Big Econlockhatchee river in Seminole County. Orange County EPD samples 8 lake sites and 18 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Reedy Creek Basin

This basin contains Reedy Creek which flows from just north of Walt Disney World south to Lake Tohopekaliga. Orange County EPD samples 13 lake sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

Shingle Creek Basin

This basin contains Shingle Creek which flows from Hwy. 50 in Orange County south to Lake Tohopekaliga in Osceola County. Orange County EPD samples 17 lake sites and 4 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.

St. John's Basin

This basin contains the St. John's River. The county's eastern boundary is bordered by the river. This river system receives water from other systems in the county such as the Econlockhatchee and Wekiva rivers. Orange County EPD samples 11 stream sites in this basin on a quarterly basis.
